Art Courses with Heini King

As an artist and art educator I am available to partner up with host institutions and organisations to deliver art courses and workshops. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss a particular need of an art event or ideas for a potential project in your organisation!

Below you can read about my vision and how I operate.

Values: Art, creativity and opportunities to learn skills using one’s hands are central to being human. Art-making engages and develops problem-solving skills and aesthetic understanding and enjoyment. Art making also opens up a way to perceive our material culture and embrace one’s cultural heritage. Art-making in a group setting creates excellent opportunities to develop collaborative skills, enhance sense of social belonging, and increase focus and well-being.

Vision: Learning happens in a playful, friendly and supportive environment where skill sharing and learning by doing are some of the guiding principles. My approach to education is participant-centred. Each course is planned informed and in response to dialogue with the host institution. The participants’ needs and requirements to do with their previous experience, health or special needs and access requirements are always a priority.

What happens in an art workshop? Dialogue, individual working and technical demonstrations alternate in a typical workshop session. I like bringing inspiration to the discussions from historical and contemporary art sources. Skill and knowledge sharing are valued principles in the sessions, everyone has something to teach and learn. Courses and workshops centre around a particular theme, or an age or interest group. Below are descriptions of two adult courses that I currently deliver at the Art Stables in North London.

Sustainability is at the heart of all courses. Working with the old, making new things out of what we already have is an inspiring starting point to many projects! In addition discussing environmental aspects of working methods and materials used is part of learning new skills.

Prices: £40 /hour is a guide price for a typical workshop facilitation, with around 8-15 participants. Pricing of art courses however, will depend on whether I, the host organisation or the participants provide materials, space etc. Please get in touch with your particular requirements!
